A worker who was transporting a man’s body from his home to a funeral parlor is accused of stealing hundreds of dollars in cash from a bedroom in the home.

The Broward Sheriff’s Office said Armando Sardina, 56, of Miami, works for the body removal service for Service Corp. International, the parent company of the Star of David funeral home. He went to a Tamarac home Thursday to transport the body of Michael Bressler, 53, to a funeral home after Bressler died of natural causes, police said.

As Sardina was preparing to transport the body, police said, relatives noticed $327 was missing from a bank bag in the home’s master bedroom. Police said Bressler’s brother-in-law confronted Sardina, and Sardina gave a BSO deputy permission to search his vehicle.

BSO said the deputy found the $327 between the seats of Sardina’s van. Sardina was arrested and charged with grand theft.

Police said Sardina apologized after the money was found.

Anyone who believes they may have been victimized by Sardina is asked to call local police, BSO said.
